Ed passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Nov. 19, 2016 at the age of 87.

He was born January 2, 1929 in Chelsea, Massachusetts to Edward and Elizabeth Manning.

Ed's family relocated to Phoenix, AZ when he was 8 years old. As an overweight teen, he decided to dedicate his life to health and fitness, and would frequently help other people who wanted to do the same. Ed attended Phoenix Union High School and earned a baseball scholarship to ASU. His passion for baseball and talent as a second baseman continued in the AZ Texas minor league. He later played for the New York Giants minor league team. Ed continued to play baseball with friends as well as run the track and stadium stairs at Phoenix College well into his mid 80's. He was also a Golden Glover for the Arizona Diamondbacks organization.

After serving in the Air Force, at the age of 29 Ed became a proud member of the Phoenix Fire Department and remained there until his retirement 48 years later. Even after retirement, you could find him at the local fire station running on their treadmill or sharing a meal with his fellow firefighters.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lois, his daughter Jen, son in law Jeff, and grandchildren Morgan and Jason, as well as wonderful extended family and lifelong friends. Ed is preceded in death by his parents and sister Mary.

Ed's smile, positive outlook on life, and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him.

A Celebration of his Life will be held at 2pm on January 2, 2017 at Living Streams Church (Fellowship Hall).
