DONALD LEE DESJARLAIS, 83

Donald "Don" Lee DesJarlais, 83 passed away peacefully at home on Monday, November 28, 2016 in Scottsdale, AZ. He was born May 13, 1933 to Henry and Edna (Christensen) DesJarlais in Hot Springs, SD. Don served in the US Army stationed in Okinawa, Japan. After his military service, on May 24th, 1958 he married Ramona Kathryn Schmalz at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Fayette, ND. Don graduated from Northern State College in Aberdeen, SD in 1959. In February 1963 he obtained his CPA license.

Donald "Don" Lee DesJarlais, 83 passed away peacefully at home on Monday, November 28, 2016 in Scottsdale, AZ. He was born May 13, 1933 to Henry and Edna (Christensen) DesJarlais in Hot Springs, SD. Don served in the US Army stationed in Okinawa, Japan. After his military service, on May 24th, 1958 he married Ramona Kathryn Schmalz at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Fayette, ND. Don graduated from Northern State College in Aberdeen, SD in 1959. In February 1963 he obtained his CPA license.

Don began his career with MF Anderson, a leading accounting firm in Rapid City, South Dakota. Don, Ramona and their children moved to Yankton, SD in 1966 where Don was the founder and senior partner of "DesJarlais, Munson and Schaap" for 21 years. While living in Yankton, Don was involved in the community, serving on many boards. Don was Chairman of the South Dakota Board of Accountants. Don was the Vice President of the SD Jaycees and in 1977 was named the "Boss of the Year" by the Yankton Jaycees. Don was also on the Board of Trustees of the Sacred Heart Hospital, had 4th degree honors by the Knights of Columbus, was Treasurer of the Mount Marty College Council, Treasurer of the Yankton Sertoma Club and was an active member at Hillcrest Country Club. Don was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing, playing cards and reading. In 1989 Don and Mona moved back to Rapid City, SD so that Don could be closer to his aging parents. Don worked for Ketel Thorstenson, LLP. Don and Mona spent 17 years "wintering" in Gold Canyon AZ before moving full-time to McDowell Village in Scottsdale, AZ, March, 2016.

Survivors include Ramona, his loving wife of 58 years, his two sons, James (wife Kim), of Priest River, ID and Donald, of Salem, OR and his two daughters, Pamela Vucurevich (husband David) of Cincinnati, OH and Sue Ann McMeekin (husband Russel) of Phoenix, AZ. Don had 10 wonderful grandchildren: Pamela and Samantha McMeekin, Nicholas and Zachery Vucurevich, Kaeli and Thoreau DesJarlais, Brandon, Timothy, Maxwell and Gianna DesJarlais.

Survivors also include his brothers, Jerry and wife, Maelyn, of San Diego, CA and Gene and wife, Delores, of Roundup, MT. He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents; his sister in-laws, Doris DesJarlais, Rosemary Frank, Roberta Way, and Renita Schmalz as well as his nephew, Timothy Schmalz.

We will all greatly miss Don and his witty and clever personality.

The family will receive friends and family on Monday December 5th from 12 to 3 pm at Green Acres Mortuary located at: 401 North Hayden Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85257. There will be a visitation followed by a service with Military Honors.
